Your Leesburg Apartments Search Guide
Residents of Leesburg apartments have a lot of American history to be proud of in this lovely suburban town of Washington, DC. In addition to the history, there are plenty of wide open spaces to get out and hike, bike and enjoy nature. And for the shopper, you won't be disappointed in what Leesburg has to offer.
The history of Leesburg can be viewed firsthand by walking downtown or driving towards the nearby town of Loudon. The brick sidewalks and beautiful historic buildings are amazing to see; many have been there for 200 years or more, since the city was settled in the early 1700's. It has been cited as one of the best preserved and most picturesque downtowns in Virginia. Historic landmarks here include the downtown city hall, the Dodona Manor, the former home of George C. Marshall, WWII General and architect of The Marshall Plan used to rebuild Europe after the war. Oatlands Plantation is an interesting visit to a beautiful mansion built nearly 200 years ago and is a National Historic Landmark.
Residents of Leesburg apartments will surely want to enjoy all the Parks and Recreation facilities. With over 16 parks on 370 acres, the park system offers a huge array of programs and facilities. Ida Lee Park provides aquatic programs from two indoor pools, tennis, basketball courts, a fitness center and even child care if you want to take a class. The Washington Old Dominion Railroad trail has over 45 miles of trail for joggers, walkers and bikers to get out and enjoy the old rail line.
A day at the mall can always help one's attitude, and Leesburg has the advantage of a Premium Outlet Mall in its city limits. With such stores as Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn to spiff up your Leesburg apartments, and over 60 designer clothes stores plus shoes and accessory stores, you could spend all day here. That means you'll need a coffee shop or restaurants serving burgers, pizza, fish and chips and other American food, and they are here in a relaxing food court.
As with most public school systems in the DC area, the Loudon County Public School System is highly acclaimed and a third high school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010.
Annual events can make a town a great place to live, and Leesburg offers many great outdoor events. April hosts the Flower and Garden Festival held in the Historic District with garden vendors, food and entertainment. The Fourth of July Event is a well-attended function with a parade in the morning, a festival during the day at Ida Lee Park and evening fireworks. The August Court and Market Days recognize the historical significance of the town and are held in the Historic District. The longest running Halloween Parade east of the Mississippi involves local bands and floats made by businesses, families and independent organizations.
